Program Spotlight
At The Columbus Foundation, we work closely with area nonprofit organizations providing valuable programs to strengthen our communities and empower our residents. The three organizations listed in Program Spotlight have received grants from The Columbus Foundation, and offer programs and services designed to meet the diverse needs of individuals and families in our community.
If any of these causes match your charitable giving goals, we invite you to join us in a shared investment by making a grant recommendation or gift through PowerPhilanthropy.

Vernal Pool Outreach Program
Each spring, hundreds of vernal pools in central Ohio fill with spring rain and snow melt. These pools, from less than one-third to more than an acre, serve as unique wildlife nurseries for thousands of species of wildlife and offer an abundance of value to the environment. A type of wetland, vernal pools slowly release storm water and filter sediment and pollutants from entering streams and rivers. The Ohio Environmental Council’s Vernal Pool Outreach Program provides valuable workshops and educational programming to raise awareness of the importance of vernal pools in our communities. One Girl Initiative
The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio, founded in 2001, is a public foundation that awards grants to programs that empower women and girls. The organization surveyed girls in Franklin and contiguous counties, and in 2009 published a report titled, One Girl: The Status of Girls in Central Ohio. From this research, a three-year funder’s collaborative, One Girl Initiative, was created to develop and implement programs that will help girls share their experiences with one another during times of transition—from elementary to middle school, middle school to high school, and high school to college. Centralized Point Access Program
Since 1986, Community Shelter Board (CSB) has been working collaboratively with area agencies and organizations to help end homelessness in central Ohio. The organization recently launched a new program that serves as a centralized point of access for homeless single adults, which CSB hopes will improve links to community resources and reduce the need for emergency shelter when other resources are available. Faith Mission, a member of Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio family, is implementing the two-year pilot program. Click to learn more. |
