Columbus Metropolitan Library Offers Helping Hand
Columbus Metropolitan Library Job Help Centers offer
free resources in all branches
With unemployment rising in central Ohio and new layoffs being announced weekly, Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) has stepped up to offer a valuable free service for customers at the Main Library and all 20 branches.
In January, CML introduced the Job Help Centers, designated spaces in each branch where customers can use computers, access online resources and the Internet, and ask for help from library staff when filling out job applications. In addition, the library is offering free classes on building a resume and how to search for and apply for a job online.
“The response to the job help centers has been fantastic,” said Kim Snell, spokesperson for CML. “The Hilltop branch began offering the services as a pilot project in January. They had more than 200 people use the service. It is very obvious to us that the people in our community need help getting back to work and we are very happy to be able to offer that help to our customers.”
CML is ranked the number one library in the country by Hennen’s American Public Library Rating Index for 2008. The library serves over 8 million customers in 21 branches and more than 7 million virtual users who log on to its 3 websites:
