Art is a fantastic form of self-expression—and one that resonates with many teenagers. The Wexner Center for the Arts’ popular summer workshop program, Teen Arts Fusion, is geared toward students ages 15-18 looking to learn more about visual, performance, and media arts.

The program, in existence since 1997, pairs practicing artists with youth interested in a number of different mediums, including drawing, ceramics, sculpting, photography, and new technologies like video game design. Classes are small, allowing individual attention and one-on-one time with the art educators, half of whom are seasoned adult professionals and half of whom are graduate or Ph.D. candidates at The Ohio State University in theater, architecture, art, art education, and dance.

“At the Wexner Center we believe that teens and contemporary artists are on the same page,” said Shelly Casto, director of education for the Wexner Center of the Arts. “Both are exploring identity and boundaries, questioning traditions, and grappling with society’s toughest questions in interesting and fresh ways.”

The week-long, half-day classes range in cost from $75 for members to $90 for non-members. Many scholarships are available for students who qualify.

“Teens are very valuable to us!” Ms. Casto said. “Their voices are essential to our future survival.”
