Estate Planning: Creating a Legacy
Philanthropy offers valuable estate planning benefits and allows you to create a charitable legacy. In addition to providing for your loved ones, you may choose to create a unique fund at The Columbus Foundation or add to one you have already established for the community.
The Columbus Foundation offers an array of options and resources to help you. Your planned gift may be in the form of:
- A bequest in your will or trust document
- Life income plans, such as a charitable remainder trust and charitable gift annuity
- Gifts of remainder interest in a residence or farm
- Gift of life insurance, retirement plan assets, or other forms, such as a charitable lead trust.
- We can help prioritize your goals for social impact, while achieving the most favorable income tax benefits available.
Carrying Out Your Wishes
The Columbus Foundation is dedicated to carrying out your wishes for your future fund to ensure support for the organizations and areas of concern that are most significant to you. To do so, we’ll need to meet with you to develop a Letter of Intent.
A Letter of Intent provides your instructions concerning programs and/or organizations that you wish to support with your future fund. The Foundation's donor services and development staff can assist you and your professional advisor in completing your Letter of Intent.
Legacy Society
Individuals who have made plans to leave a gift to charity through The Columbus Foundation are members of the Legacy Society, which was created to recognize those who plan to make a substantial gift later. To date, more than $700 million has been committed to the Foundation through planned gifts.
