Family Giving Fund Types

A Family Fund is a type of donor advised fund that is a hands-on, personalized approach to support the next generation of charitable giving. A Family Fund allows parents, grandparents, and others to establish separate "individual" charitable accounts for their loved ones.  These individual accounts can be established in any amount, encouraging the next generation to learn about and contribute personally to community causes.

Scholarship Funds are often used by families to honor someone, memorialize a loved one, or establish a legacy of generosity to help students pursue their passions, educational goals, and their futures. You define candidate eligibility, selection, and award use. We handle all administration, including working with your suggested selection committee, verifying the student’s school registration, disbursing checks, and sharing details of award payment with the recipient.

If you’re focused on one area of interest, such as conservation, health, education, or a specific community—a Field of Interest Fund is a good choice for you. This fund enables you to align your giving with your family interests or goals. You may select your own advisory committee to recommend grants, or the Foundation’s Community Research and Grants Management Department can manage the grantmaking for you.

Supporting Foundation is a perfect opportunity to encourage your family to become involved in a meaningful and highly engaged way. Whether it is your children serving alongside you as family trustee, or two or three generations of your family serving as members of a committee to make recommendations about distributing grants, a supporting foundation is an opportunity to create your own family foundation.

In addition to choosing the type of fund that works best for your family, you will have an array of investment options for your family fund.  A range of assets, including stock and real estate, may be used to establish or add to a family fund or foundation.
