OHIO BENEFIT BANK GARNERS
NATIONAL ATTENTION

The Ohio Benefit Bank (OBB) was recently featured on American Public Media's Marketplace. OBB, a web-based, counselor-assisted program connects low- and moderate-income Ohioans with access to public benefits and services.

The Columbus Foundation was instrumental in bringing The Benefit Bank to Ohio in 2006. Over the past three years, The Columbus Foundation and its donors have contributed more than $1 million through grants and a Critical Need Alert to support the tremendous growth and success of the program.

To date, more than $123 million has been leveraged, helping more than 76,000 Ohioans apply for, and receive, benefits including health coverage, energy assistance, food assistance, and tax help.

In 2008, The Columbus Foundation awarded a $350,000 grant for a new mobile unit that allows counselors to set up a Benefit Bank site anywhere in the state. The OBB Express was unveiled on the Statehouse lawn in March.
