This year, the Center for HumanKindness at The Columbus Foundation entered a collaborative partnership with Dr. Cheavens’ Mood and Personality Studies Lab at The Ohio State University to continue growing the body of research on kindness and its effects on individual and collective well-being.

Participating in The Big Table is easy and rewarding—but don’t just take our word for it. Donte Woods-Spikes, a Big Table Ambassador who has hosted numerous conversations, recently sat down with five members of the community to discuss the value of being part of The Big Table, as well as the lessons they’ve learned along the way.

In November 2022, the Center for HumanKindness at The Columbus Foundation announced that five local nonprofit organizations have been selected to receive the first-ever HumanKindness Prize. The HumanKindness Prize, which recognizes nonprofits that exemplify unwavering and intentional human kindness in action, was awarded to central Ohio’s five settlement houses: Central Community House, Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center, Gladden Community House, Godman Guild Association, and St. Stephen’s Community House.

It was Brandy Jemczura’s two young children who initially inspired her idea to create Seeds of Caring back in 2016. As she thought about what she wanted her children to grow up and be like, she kept coming back to the same notion—the kind of people who, if they see something in their community they aren’t okay with, will do something.
