On Belay, Climb Away!
Help people with disabilities reach new heights through a safe recreational climbing experience.
Recreation Unlimited is a popular state-wide nonprofit serving youth and adults with disabilities and health concerns through sports, recreation, and education. More than 3,200 individuals participate on an annual basis through year-round camp programs on their 195-acre property in Ashley, Ohio.
Participants connect with nature, play team sports, and explore the outdoors together in a comfortable, accessible environment. One activity campers look forward to is the climbing challenge course that offers many levels of personal challenge as well as team building exercises.
“The Alpine Tower is my favorite program at camp.”
— Courtney Hines, Camper
Support for this Better Together campaign will help Recreation Unlimited replace and upgrade safety equipment, including harnesses, helmets, and elbow and knee pads for the 50-foot Alpine Tower, a climbing structure specifically adapted for individuals with disabilities.
Climbing is a physically demanding activity that requires concentration, motor planning, and sequential thought, often making it difficult for individuals who have physical limitations or cognitive and sensory processing challenges.
Participants are encouraged to relate their tower experience to their daily lives by practicing goal setting and problem solving, building confidence as they traverse the course.
In support of this project the Recreation Unlimited Foundation is providing $4,000 in matching funds, helping each dollar you donate go even further toward the $8,000 goal!
We are Better Together!
